Depth of an Old Microsoft-Intel Rift Is Disclosed in Court nytimes.com

The subhead is In the End, Microsoft Reconciled With Intel but I think Andy Grove had a more accurate summary when he said "Basicly, we caved". Microsoft must be free to innovate, but not anybody else.

Not known for being awed by the intelligence of others, Gates included an aside about Grove: "Although Andy is super-smart in software-related areas and in some aspects of the PC market, it is amazing what he doesn't know."

Like, step on Bill's turf and you're dead meat. Conversely, if Bill decides he wants your turf, you're dead meat too. Another side of the "Microsoft must be free to innovate" line. It's all beyond the comprehension of mere mortals, though.

Cheers, Dan.
