Re: "But don't sell the equity analysts short because several, e.g. Chuck Phillips and Rick Sherlund among the "luminaries," have been saying this quietly for some time."

Agree that both gentlemen are luminaries. Their comments, estimates, ratings, etc. move markets. But the similarities of the two end there as far as their historic visions of ORCL -- the "for some time" as you put it.

Sherlund was just about the only analyst to lower his estimates on ORCL before release of its 2Q numbers last year. For this he looked like a clairvoyant. But he removed ORCL from Goldman's highly recommended list stating he saw a flattening of growth in the database market. For this he has been proven wrong. ORCL beat his estimates each of the last 3Qs.

Phillips, on the other hand, as continuously been an ORCL believer -- a believer in its technology; its market position; its market muscle; its attitude; & especially the vision of Ellison (nothwitstanding the what some may find his personality less than attractive).

I wouldn't necessarily put Sherlund & Phillips in the same camp.
