VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1998--Ikar Mineral Corp. (OTC:IKAR) is pleased to announce that its current exploration phase has commenced with the signing of a contract with Scandinavian Maintenance Service AB in Sweden (SMS), an international drilling contractor with direct core drilling expertise in Tajikistan.
SMS has been retained to conduct an initial 15-hole, 2200 metres (8,000 feet) drill program on the company's Ikar mineral deposit strategically located 55 km. from the town of Khorog (Tajikistan). The project is easily accessed by a newly constructed 8 km. gravel road which is connected with the country's main highway system.
Under the direction of L. Goldsmith, M.Sc., P.Eng., P.Geo., the drill program scheduled to start in the fall of 1998 is designed to further test and confirm the extensions of the previously discovered mineralized zone. Drill targets have been identified in conjunction with the successful surface chip and underground sampling program conducted by Kilborn Engineering earlier this year. The company has received governmental approvals required to conduct the work program. In addition, the company has contracted with Bondar Clegg Inc., a world renowned metallurgical testing facility to conduct the drill core assays, which will be tested using industry standard fire assay method and metallic screen analytical techniques.
Exploration and development programs conducted at the Ikar Mineral property between its discovery in 1970 through 1998 have indicated a potential multi-mineral deposit.
