<<well??>> Ok,ok give me a chance to look up acolytes in the dictionary. Ah ha, All right no we are not in any way hypocritical with regards to our faith.<< are you sure the fish will survive the release>> Quite sure indeed I know nothing about chipmunks [but I doubt what you have been told is true, flies in the face of the laws of natural selection ] .As far as the Trout are concerned: 1. all barbs must be removed from the hooks prior to fishing [the legal test is will the hook go both ways through a hankerchief with out a snag,Game Warden test] 2.Proper technique in release is to never touch Trout without first wetting hands in order as not to wipe off protective slime on Trout [prevents infection] best to keep Trout in water while removing hook. 3. If Trout should swallow hook [very rare] cutting the line and leaving the hook in will suffice as the hook will rust out in a few days . 4. Studies have been done by Fish and Game Dept. showing that almost all Trout will survive if given this treatment.Unfortunatly not 100% as if hooked in the gills resulting in bleeding the Trout may die. Avoiding long shanked hooks will solve this problem. Also the above may or may not apply to ocean fish as different studies show conflicting results.5. My personal experience backs this up as I have caught the same Trout more than once. Also I have seen Trout that I have just released on occasion resume feeding shortly after wards. I personally have worked in my home state to get more streams designated as "No Kill areas. Answer your question?
