Ligos Technology Leads PC/TV Convergence With DVD-Quality Digital Video Recorder
COMDEX Fall 98
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1998--
GoMotionTV Enables Real-time MPEG-2 Recording in a Software Solution Today, Six-Months Ahead of Planned Hardware Alternatives
Ligos Technology, developers of multimedia technologies and applications for digital video recording and navigation, announces GoMotionTV(tm), an application that brings real-time television recording to the desktop. GoMotionTV is a software-only MPEG-2 Digital Video Recorder (DVR), with added features for TV viewing and recording in real-time on the PC.
GoMotionTV delivers the power of hardware in a software solution and at a fraction of the price, using the GoMotion(tm) codec, Ligos Technology's proprietary real-time software-only MPEG-2 encoding technology. Ligos is demonstrating GoMotionTV at COMDEX, meeting room L2168R.
"OEMs have an alternative to waiting for a $75 chip that will ship in six-months," said Peter Forman, president and CEO of Ligos Technology. "We developed GoMotionTV as an MPEG-2, DVD-quality real-time recording solution that can be integrated into any video capture card. This is the first application to provide the flexibility and cost-benefit the OEM market requires."
GoMotion TV allows consumers to watch, compress and record television images in real-time on a personal computer equipped with a video capture card, without costly hardware. The software enables video viewing and playback with functions comparable to standard VCRs. GoMotionTV automatically compresses and records MPEG-2 video in real-time onto the hard drive or to removable media.
GoMotionTV is the first software product that brings the power of MPEG to PC television tuner cards, providing easy-to-use features for high-quality, compact recording. Ligos Technology makes recording accessible to every capture card solution and allows users to:
-- View television programs full-screen or in a window while running other applications
-- Compress and record full-motion video in real-time without compression hardware
-- Record television programs onto a hard drive or removable media
GoMotionTV requires an Intel or compatible 266 MHz Pentium(R) II or higher processor with 32 MB of RAM, Windows(R) 95 or higher, a Windows-compatible sound card and a PCI bus video capture card.
Pricing and Availability
GoMotionTV will be available to OEMs for licensing as a Microsoft DirectShow filter and Video For Windows solution, providing the industry the easiest path to integrate these new capabilities into their own systems and applications.
