Question on shorting...Tried to short OXGN on Thursday and told I could not...no shares available. I have also tried to short other companies, and I've been told the same thing. In some cases, they were cheap stocks (non-marginable), so I could sort of understand. But, I tried to short OXGN at 12.5 (which would have been a great play), but I was told I could not do that because there were no shares available. Is that because I am currently only dealing with Ameritrade (and ready to switch to, or at least add, Etrade), or is there something that I am missing? As much as shorting makes me nervous, looking at my portfolio over the last few months (and excluding the quick in-outs that have been very profitable), I would have done very well shorting most of the stocks that I bought, so it looks like an attractive prospect, especially at the current market levels.
In fact, after buying EGGS earlier this month and selling a couple of days later at a nice profit, I even considered shorting last week at 13.5. It would have been a nice play, in spite of today's performance, since I would have covered at 12 something, but I am still clueless as to what will happen to EGGS in the next few days.
