Henry:
Boy, what a day, the FDA gives the thumbs up, and the stock takes a dive. At least it recovered a bit.
A few thoughts:
Those who were hoping for a primary indication and are now disappointed were unrealistic in the first place. While treatment of lesions locally may reduce spread, that was not studied in the trials. KS is a systemic disease. A local therapy would not be expected to be a first line therapy. However, I would be that it would be a largely used therapy because the systemic therapy is toxic as hell, and not very responsive. If the local therapy improves looks, then many may just wait to see if they have systemic disease before they take the chemo. In any event, I bet that it would be part of a multimodality regimin.
When the drug is on the market, no one will care what the dissenter had to say. The cup my friends is 9/10ths full, not partially empty.
I think that the news must be taken in a positive light as it means that Ligand is moving from simply an R&D company to a company that will be making and selling products that will be helping people soon.
Just a few thoughts. Dan
