OK I'm finishing up at the Sands.

The 3Dfx booth is _great_! MUCH better than E3 in terms of the messages that it sends. I have pics of all the stations. The centerpiece was the V3 display that included a glass case with the chip, the chip on an AGP card, and the chip on a motherboard (yum!). Of course it was probably a dummy chip, but it was impressive non-the-less.

Talked with TonyT at the booth:

1.) "Banshee2" doesn't exist any more. They will have V3 boards out in the same timeframe and V3 incorporates any/all of the lessons they learned from Banshee

2.) V3 SLI mode make no sense to Tony. First off, the AGP bus only allows one board. Tony also said that for PCI systems a single V3 will probably be bus-limited anyway, so SLI'ing them won't buy you anything. While he wouldn't say that SLI mode was "100% dead", he didn't seem to think that it was useful any more.

Didn't find any of the other chip makers here yet (need to scan the catalog to be sure). Just 3Dfx and ATi so far. Saw Creative's big booth. Didn't find Diamond's (although I did spot a sign).

Now back to the hotel to crunch the pictures and eat some food.

Stay tuned,
