The balloon that is Ericy's campaign of misinformation is about to be punctured. A major foreign carrier is likely to back away from W-cdma.

I would assume that the PR boys will do their best to couch the announcement as subtly as possible--in order to save face. However, Qualcomm fans, and the rest of the industry (Ericy and its apologists excepted, of course) will understand what it really means: Ericy misrepresented it had its IPR act together and could implement W-cdma without Qualcomm's IPR but the carrier now realizes that Ericy's representations were "mistaken" (to be charitable). In other words, there can be no 3G without Qualcomm.

Christmas may come early; Chanukah, too. Or better yet, it would be a very welcome and appropos Thanksgiving present; then we might be able look forward to a Christmas or New Year's present of convergence. Don't get too excited. It will probably take more time for all this to come down, in view of the past history of how slow things actually move.
