Wall Street Journal article in tomorrow's edition:
Qualcomm Clashes With Japan, Europe Over Cellular Standard

For the most part, it's old news here. But it does have this one nice point:

[Qualcomm] wants them to revise W-CDMA so that it will also work with CDMA. If they don't, it warns, it won't license them to use Qualcomm technologies it says are essential to W-CDMA. This is despite the fact that it would stand to make money selling licenses to both 3G technologies. In theory, this means that for DoCoMo to start W-CDMA service, manufacturers would have to violate Qualcomm patents first. Japan's submission to the ITU cites more than 1,500 Qualcomm patents that could be needed for W-CDMA; DoCoMo and Ericsson say, however, that W-CDMA doesn't rely on Qualcomm-patented technology.

Hmm, DoCoMo thinks there might be 1,500 relevant Qualcomm patents. That sounds promising to me.
