As a consumer of discretionary spending the gadget industry does a fine job, but what does the computer industry contribute to the economic cycle? The lack of a robust demand (beyond what is subsidized by the government defense interests) for our own supercomputers indicates that fast computation, per se, is not economically indispensible. Recent advances have been made more in quantity than quality - witness the unsatisfied demand for "technology professionals" which is really a call for disposable grunts to slave their way through a series of brain-dead software tasks.
Now you've got me talking, I'll only get more morose! obviously I've unloaded most of my technology shares and am looking for a new entry opportunity. -g-
