Top of the mornin Bosco,
Re: The Rape of Nanking. I was thumbing the same book the other day but didn't buy it as I am flush having just received a large box from Amazon last week. Not to stray too far but Malaysia was, of course, run over by the Japanese during WWII having sent the Brits packing. My mother-in-law remembers it all very well. Including having to dress like a boy and having her hair cut short, in order to avoid rape. She was 10 years old at the time.

One incident she saw is especially horrifying. Three men were stuffed into a large basket which was then suspended by a rope. Several soldiers lined up 50 yards away and used the basket for "target practice". Long after the men were dead they were still shooting, wagering on who could cut down the basket with a bullet. About 60 villagers were made to watch. Her mother refused to go to market after that. Small wonder.

Best,
Stitch
