Am I the only person confused by Amazon's 'mall' approach to internet shopping? A few years ago, when on-line shopping was just getting started, all the players went the shopping mall route. I remember MCI had a HUGE online shopping mall. Amex also had something called the Promenade that didn't work. In fact, other than computer mail order houses, if you wanted just about anything you had to go to an online mall and wade through screen after screen of menus for items you didn't want. It was annoying and based on how many of those place survived, unpopular.

Ultimately, all those sites seemed to be replaced by specialized retailers... places like Amazon. Now the trend it going back towards big mega-shopping sites. I predict it will be no more successful the 2nd time around. Log in to Amazon tomorrow and you will be bombarded with all the options...and my guess is that people who know they want a CD will gravitate to an exclusively music site.

Of course, I could be wrong and Amazon will rule the world. But I will still buy my brownies from www.browniegram.com [gratuitous plug for some outrageously good brownies.].
