Beyond.com Adds Customer Ratings to Web Site
First Internet Store to Post Comprehensive Online Buyers' Guide to Software
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1998--Leading Internet software reseller Beyond.com™ (Nasdaq:BYND - news) this week posted Gold Star Customer Ratings for more than 1,200 software products sold through its Web site (http://www.beyond.com).
Beyond.com is the first software store on the Internet to provide such a comprehensive online buyer's guide to software.
The new ratings system allows customers to evaluate each software title they purchase and share their findings with other software shoppers. Ratings are based on a scale of 0 to 5 stars in half-star increments. A five-star rating means that a software title is exceptional. A one- or two-star rating indicates that a product failed to meet the expectations of a significant percentage of customers who responded.
''We encourage all Beyond.com customers to share their personal, software recommendations, further enhancing the helpfulness of our web site,'' said Brian Sroub, vice-president of marketing for Beyond.com. ''Customer ratings, coupled with our online software recommendations, are just two ways that Beyond.com, increasingly, is becoming a leading online authority for software buyers.''
Under the new system, Beyond.com customers awarded perfect scores to more than 100 software products across a range of product categories that are sold by Beyond.com. Products that received the highest customer rating as of Nov. 16 include:
-- Paint Shop Pro V5.0 -- Visual Basic Deluxe Learning Edition 5.0 -- Adobe Acrobat V3.0.1 -- Dragon Naturally Speaking V3.0 -- American Greetings Creatacard Plus -- Norton AntiVirus 5.0 Deluxe Win95 -- Turok: Dinosaur Hunter -- Dreamworks Interactive: Goose Bumps from Horrorland -- Tomb Raider II -- Casper Brainy Book
''Knowing that other people like particular software is a huge plus to consumers when they buy software,'' Sroub said. ''Customer Ratings, coupled with our online software recommendations, will reinforce Beyond.com as the online software authority in consumers' minds and the most helpful site on the Internet.''
Beyond.com in July began to survey customers by e-mail, asking them to evaluate software approximately two weeks after purchasing it.
