Good news I think. This may mean Staar could lock up 20% of the cataract lens market, and from there maybe much more. Usually, I would think the stock would go up on news such as this, but sentiment is pretty bearish now, so who knows. I'm not sure what portion of the market for cataract lenses they hold now.

STREAMING VIDEO: FDA Approves for Marketing New Intraocular Lens Designed to Treat Both Cataracts and Reduce Astigmatism
--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just approved for marketing the STAAR TORICâ„¢ Intraocular Lens (IOL), a revolutionary product designed to help people suffering from cataracts -- the clouding of the eye's natural lens, causing loss of vision.
Each year, 2.5 million Americans undergo cataract surgery; of those, 20 percent have another common eye disorder: astigmatism or blurred vision.
Until now, these patients would require additional correction or even a second surgical procedure to correct their vision. But now, by implanting the STAAR TORIC IOL, both problems can be treated in a single procedure.
Beginning at 8:00AM EST on Tuesday, November 17th, you can watch streaming video explaining this new procedure. Visit www.staar.com to link to this video. |
