Symanteccompletes Quarterdeck tender offer

CUPERTINO, Calif., Nov 17 (Reuters) - Computer virus protection software company Symantec Corp said Tuesday it completed its tender offer and accepted for payment about 60 percent of the common shares of Quarterdeck Corp.(QDEK - news), a maker of so-called helpware programs.

More than 55 million shares were tendered when Symantec's tender offer expired on Monday at midnight EST (0500 GMT on Tuesday), the company said.

Symantec said it intends to acquire Quarterdeck's remaining shares through a cash merger at the tender offer price of $0.52 a share, as agreed to under a merger deal signed in October.

The deal is expected to close after a special meeting of Quarterdeck shareholders in December, Symantec said.

Including the assumption of Quarterdeck's outstanding debt, the total purchase price in the acquisition is expected to total about $65 million, Symantec said.
