OK, more poop from TonyT @ Comdex (mere minutes old):

Re: 32-bit Color

32-bit color _doubles_ the size of the frame buffer and slows speed significantly. Cost is also increased significantly.

The visual quality of the V3 will be "slightly" better than a Banshee is today.

The maximum "playable" resolution for Voodoo3 will almost certainly be 16??x12??. The highest possible resolution (2048x????) will be too slow.

Re: 16MB memory limit

The 16MB memory limitation exists due to "target price points."
SGRAM that is as fast as V3 needs is currently selling "below cost" so 3Dfx doesn't expect memory prices to fall any more between now and the middle of next year.

Re: AGP Issues

An AGP 4x version of V3 will be available "in time for Intel's launch of AGP 4x" sometime in the middle of next year.

AGP texturing requires too much bus bandwidth. It is not practical for AGP 2x and is dubious even for AGP 4x. "Do the math."

Re: Future Products

"This is the first of a number of announcements we will be making in the next couple of months."

"Voodoo3 has not delayed any of the other product teams that we have working on future products."
