The marketing campaign for Pokemon toys was officially launched today with a ceremony at FAO Schwarz in New York:

A friend of mine lives in NYC and stopped by FAO Schwarz to check out the festivities. Here is what I received from him:

I was at FAO at a funny time, between lunchtime and after-school
time, so the store wasn't too crowded. The Pokemon display is
very large with a big sign. The toys look to be high quality --
not just motionless figures, like most of the Ninja Turtles and
Power Rangers were, but little battle games, high-bouncing balls
(balls with Pokemon in them figure in the show), electronic
talking figures that light up, etc. Cute stuff. FAO also had a
limited-edition thing that I bought (bought $84 worth of the
stuff for the next several gift-giving occasions for my kids).
The toys ranged from $3.99 for the little balls, to $9.99 for the
electronic ones and multiple-piece battle games. All I can say
about the demand is, there were plenty of people looking at the
display, and the limited-edition FAO Schwarz Exclusive toy was
not sold out (450 pieces, at least 50 still on display and maybe
more in the back).
