thank you, Chaz, rudedog and Beavis.
I will not follow up on the metrics. I think I can answer the question that I really had- whatever way that you look at it, the actual cost of producing the popular software products is low- a few dollars a copy at most. This applies to IE, Nav., DOS, Lotus and Windows, but not OS2.
rudedog: Those figures were from the WSJ
Some time ago I read that MSFT has 13000 permanent employees. Venture to guess how many are programmers, how many are supervisors [that don't put, as we used to say, pencil to paper ], managers, lawyers and other bean counters? What is the ratio of sherpas to total personnel?
Beavis: It's easy to see why bosses, per Dilbert, are viewe as dumb jerks.
