Michelle,

LRL has experimented with some success with laser fusion.

Hawking's does not think that you can traverse a blackhole and survive. He also believes that blackholes come in at least pairs and that some of the holes may join to adjacent universes that are predicted by inflation theory. The particles that enter the blackhole boil off into the other universe or back into this universe through a process that has to do with the virtual particle production accompanied by velocities that are faster than the speed of light for short distances.

I am not convinced he is correct. A bullet aimed dead center of a large blackhole that is moving at the speed of light as it crosses the event horizon, theoretically cannot be further accelerated and therefore may not be torn apart by the differential gravitional forces along the longitudinal axes of the bullet. If the black hole connects to another black hole in our universe it may be possible to achieve what is effectively faster than light speed through the folding of the time space continuum.

He also states that having entered the blackhole that only imaginary time passes. This is time that is orthogonal to ordinary time in normal space.

His favorite movie is "Dark Star".

Regards,

Jim Kelley
