09:02 ET InfoSeek Inc (SEEK) 35 3/4: Bell Atlantic Electronic Commerce, a unit of regional bell Bell Atlantic, files with SEC to sell 1 mln shares or approx. 85% of its InfoSeek position. Issue indicated 3/4 lower.
08:54 ET Applied Materials (AMAT) 37 1/8: --Update-- Morgan Stanley Dean Witter lowers issue from "outperform" to "neutral." Although Morgan believes chip and chip equipment industries have bottomed, says stock already ahead of fundamentals, according to CNBC. Notes that AMAT shares currently trade at 19 times firm's FY00 earnings estimate.
08:51 ET Applied Materials (AMAT) 37 18: --Update-- Merrill Lynch raises near-term rating on issue from "neutral" to "accumulate." Maintains long-term "buy" rating. Sets a price target of $48.
08:49 ET Applied Materials (AMAT) 37 1/8: Semiconductor equipment maker reports Q4 earnings, before charges, of $0.07 a share, a nickel above the First Call mean, down 86% from the yr-ago period. revenue fell 47% to $673 mln; backlog declined 8.3% sequentially. DLJ upgrading issue from "market perform" to buy." Firm raises FY99 (Oct) estimate from $0.70 to $0.80 (+14%). AMAT shares indicated flat to slightly higher.
08:41 ET Cerner Corp (CERN) 22 7/8: Health care information systems concern's shares indicated 1 1/4 higher after company announces that General Electric (GE) has acquired a 670,000 share stake in the company at $22.20 per share; in addition, Cerner and GE Medical Systems announced the formation of a strategic alliance to integrate Cerner's HNA Millennium RadNet Radiology Information System with GE Medical's Picture Archive and Communication Systems (PACS) technology.
