Not sure when earnings come out. But here is a nice little gem.
BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 1997--Boca Research, Inc. (NASDAQ:BOCI) today announced its 56.6 Kbps upgrade policy. This open policy allows an end-user with any brand 28.8 or 33.6 Kbps modem to easily upgrade to a Boca Research 56.6 Kbps modem. The policy also guarantees owners of Boca Research 28.8, 33.6 or 56.6 Kbps modems an industry compliant 56.6 Kbps product as soon as the industry standard is approved. The policy, announced today at the Winter Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, will be two-fold. End-users can take any brand 28.8 or 33.6 Kbps modem to a designated retail location and purchase a Boca Research "interim" 56.6 Kbps modem at a significantly reduced price. The second option allows direct exchange between Boca Research and the consumer, however, it is limited to end-users who currently own a Boca Research 33.6 Kbps modem. A customer owning a Boca Research 33.6 Kbps modem will send the modem to Boca Research, and in turn, will receive an "interim" 56.6 Kbps modem for a one-time charge, plus shipping and handling. Regardless of which option is selected, the owner of an "interim" Boca Research 56.6 Kbps modem is eligible to receive an "industry standard" 56.6 Kbps Boca Research product as soon as the standard is approved. Jerry Lumpkin, Boca's Vice President Product Management/ Marketing, commented, "By creating this plan, Boca is making 56K technology readily available to everyone who currently owns a 28.8 or 33.6 modem, regardless of the brand name. We expect the new 56K technology to be in demand, and through this policy, we are prepared to accommodate all consumer's upgrade needs quickly and cost- effectively. And best of all, when the industry standard is finalized, we guarantee Boca Research 56K users a 56K `industry standard' product." The effective date of this policy is dependent upon Rockwell's delivery of a 56.6 Kbps modem chip set, which is anticipated to be February 1997. International implementation of this policy will be governed by the homologation requirements of the individual countries. Terms and conditions are subject to change. |
