KANATA, ONTARIO--Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN - news; TSE: NNC - news) today announced that Teletulua Telecom, a telecommunications carrier based in Tulua, Colombia, has selected the Newbridge(r) advanced multi-services platform to meet growing customer demand for lea ding-edge, value-added video and data services. Increased demand for these services has resulted from Tulua's booming economy and the explosive growth of the Internet and Internet Protocol (IP)-based services.
The highly scalable, cost-effective networking solution being provided by Newbridge Networks and Telexis Corporation, a Newbridge Affiliate company specializing in network-ready video products, will enable the carrier to move beyond its current voice ser vice offerings and deliver state-of-the-art video and data services that include a comprehensive, reliable security monitoring service for Teletulua's business customers. Teletulua's customers include banks and other financial institutions, healthcare or ganizations, the Tulua police department, retail outlets and residential subscribers.
''With deregulation and the economic growth that the region of Tulua continues to enjoy, we required a cost-effective networking solution that would be compatible with our existing fiber optic infrastructure. More importantly, we were seeking a solution t hat would set us apart from our competitors by allowing us to deliver the kinds of leading-edge services our customers want,'' said Heider Velez, General Manager, Teletula Telecom. ''Only Newbridge could provide a video monitoring platform in addition to a fully manageable network and service architecture."
The networking solution is comprised of the Newbridge 3600+ MainStreet(r) Bandwidth Manager, Newbridge 2611 MainStreet Video Termination Units (VTUs), the industry-leading Newbridge / Siemens MainStreetXpress(tm) 46020 Network Manager, and the Telexis Vi aNet(tm) platform which will allow Teletulua Telecom to provide high quality, reliable security monitoring services to its customers.
The Newbridge VTUs will enable Teletulua Telecom to optimize bandwidth utilization by combining surveillance video with voice and data traffic. The networking solution is cost-effective as it can support the transmission of video traffic over the carrier 's existing wide area network (WAN) without the need to install additional coaxial cable.
Another advantage of the networking solution is the unparalleled network and service management capabilities provided by the industry-leading MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager. A key feature of the MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager that sets is apart from other offerings is its capability to provide network partitioning. Network partitioning enables Teletulua to segregate its network into customer-specific partitions and offer Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to its customers. VPNs are part of
a larger service provider network infrastructure, offering the same reliability, scalability and quality of service guarantees of private networks. The scalability and standards-based technology on which the MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager is base d also enable Teletulua to protect its initial network investment and expand its network simply and inexpensively.
The addition of the ViaNet Video Management System (VMS) will enable Teletulua Telecom to offer reliable security monitoring services to its customers.
''The prosperity that many of Tulua's inhabitants and businesses are experiencing has resulted in increased demand for cost-effective and reliable security monitoring services,'' said Gary Dore, Director, Latin American Sales, Telexis Corporation. ''The Via Net platform will provide Teletulua's customers with an increased level of safety and responsiveness and, at the same time, enable the carrier to carve a new niche in the growing multi-services market.''
A ViaNet Video Management System located at the carrier's headquarters in Tulua, enables technicians to monitor, manage and store video received from up to 256 Newbridge 2611 MainStreet VTUs installed throughout Teletulua's operations, including the comp any's remote central switching offices. From the VMS, several streams of video can be viewed simultaneously from a variety of sites, and operators can switch to specific camera views and automatically activate remote security equipment such as floodlight s and sirens. The ViaNet platform will enable Teletulua to add new sites easily and inexpensively by simply installing a VTU at the network site, rather than adding new cable.
''We are delighted to have been able to provide Teletulua Telecom with a networking solution that will position the carrier to take the lead in the fiercely competitive multi-services market and provide more customers with a wide range of value-added vide o and data services,'' said Gordon Turner, Vice President, Latin American Sales, Newbridge Networks.
