Randy,
Your latest ETrade experience is very typical of what I have seen with my ETrade account particularly in the first two hours of trading. Sometimes, yes believe it or not, their trades are very quick, but there are times when your order just sits there and you then try to cancel it fearing that the bid/ask has moved up/down since you submitted the order. However, once you submit your cancel, the trade then seems to go through.
I love ETrade's user interface, but I have just about had it with their firm. They called me up this week saying I owed them money for a margin purchase of S3. I explained to them that I didn't owe them any money and if they would just look over their accounting they would see their error. They said they would look into it. Two hours later they called back and said the problem was because I didn't pay for my option purchase from two months ago! At this point I am really getting annoyed. I told them that options could not be bought on margin so they were fully paid for, plus my monthly statement showed that I had no debits. They threatend to sell my shares, so I threatened them with a lawsuit. Anyway, to resolve the situation, I had to take the day off from work and get my previous monthly statement and then list for them the trades I have made since then. I then had to fax all the paperwork to them. The next day they called back and apologized for their error, but the whole situation really scared me. Slow trading is one thing, but when your broker seems to do his accounting on an abacus, then you have a problem!
I would love to transfer to Datek, but they don't provide service in the state of Florida yet. They have applied for a license, but they told me they had no idea when it would be approved. Hard to believe they can't trade in the fourth largest state in the Union.
Figured I would try Scottsdale Securites.
