On the Commodities Exchange division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, December gold rose $2.20 to $297.20 an ounce. Following gold, December silver rose 0.505 cents to $4.965 an ounce.

In industrial metals highlights: December palladium rose $7.15 to $288 an ounce, January platinum rose $4.10 to $353 an ounce, and December copper rose 0.20 cents to 71.70 cents a pound.
