cheryl I am not a spirited msft defender. (I am a sprited Dell defender though, having worked on the chain there). But what Sun doesnt seem to get that msft does is that as an applications architect I dont give a dang about TPCC benchmarks. I dont care that Orcl runs faster on unix. By making this tired "dbms speed" argument, you are just proving my point once again. What I care about is solving business problems with software. Java is not acceptable as a solution to that goal. There was one promising company (Ariba) that tried to create an enterprise app with Java and it is a POS. Every other enterprise package is moving onto the NT platform - and if you look at the platform growth rates for Sap, Psft and Orcl apps (yes Oracle Apps is only growing on NT) then you will see that. A database benchmark at Sun is a real geek-fest too. They've never solved a business problem in their lives over there. And they have been trying to come up on an ERP for 5 years. Oh but raw orcl runs faster on unix... well hoorah.
