You're right. Peapod is one service that takes grocery orders from the Net. It's been quite unprofitable. You also mentioned that GNC discontinued its mail-order sales. Some of what WFMI would sell from a web site might be mail-deliverable, but you won't sell fresh produce that way.

Wall Street Journal had an article earlier in the month about a grocery chain selling via Internet in NYC. However, it turned out to be just one store about 30 miles away from the buyer's home address. Of course, delivery (with a single delivery truck) took an extended amount of time and the customer was not a happy camper (per the interview).

WFMI evidently is several months behind schedule with its plans to sell via the Internet. I wonder if issues such as these have contributed to the delay.
