There is a financial conundrum faced by all companies: buy or build. Is is better to buy a competitor or to duplicate what the competitor has to offer? For most shareholders the problem is more knotty because buying frequently involves a friendly take over which is generally not shareholder friendly to s/h of the acquiring company. So, my guess is that PeopleSoft's management has figured this out, and what they are doing is attempting to create more products through internal development. It probably was inevitable considering that friendly takeovers use the acquiring company's stock as currency. But PSFT as currency isn't worth very much today. In short, I don't think that they are attempting to fool anybody with a financial shell game. What's to fool?

So, to my mind the real issue is what will MBA be about? What product will it develop?
