Steve,

on the Malay word "amok" or Indonesian word "amuk", it is incredible how the English word and the Malay word can have remarkably similar meanings...

Not at all incredible. We got the word from them, though by which route I am not certain. A few Asian terms have been adopted into English. I know of two Tagalog words that now appear in American dictionaries, albeit in somewhat bastardized form: they were apparently brought back by American troops during the colonial period. A free case of San Miguel to anyone who can tell me what they are, and a free keg to anyone who can contribute one I haven't yet found.
