COMDEX K6-3 demo: "Operating at 400MHz clock speed, Sharptooth outperformed the Intel Pentium II 450MHz in ZD Winbench tests, in a demo shoot-out arranged for The Register's benefit at AMD's meeting rooms in the Las Vegas Convention Centre."

I think the story that Sharptooth will only be used for mobile market is bogus. After all, the first demo was a desktop. Some other news today said that the first Sharptooth will be at 450 MHz and will appear in March.

The K6-3 will stay in a socket because its internal L2 eliminates the need for anything faster than 100 MHz bus up to, say, 600 MHz. The K7 in 0.25µ will stay in Slot A package since its a higher end chip. However, in 0.18µ perhaps AMD will develop a lower cost K7 Socket 7 or Socket XXX solution since L2 cache will then be on-chip.
