MBT had a rough couple of days. What follows is an email from last night: PLEASE READ - IMPORTANT Tuesday, November 17 Ross Ditlove: We are very sorry about today's failure of SouthWest Securities. Their inability to provide us a tape (Equity balances) lead us to begin the process of producing our own backup tape which normally provides Equity and positions prior to the open. We did not get the upload of the backup tape in time for the open. S&P started refreshing quotes (premarket) just as we were uploading our backup tape, mandating that we redo the upload. This upload takes a huge amount of resources and what normally takes 5 minutes premarket took 20 minutes once the market was open. Hence many of you had a "No Accounts Available" message until the upload was complete. Tomorrow's upload should correct all buying power issues but the tape may not be perfect due to the volume of telephone orders taken today. Should there be any errors please call us and we will correct them at once. Looking into the future we can only expect that our new clearing firm will provide us a much higher level of service. Many of you have asked the disposition of the new firm and we can report that we are progressing, albeit slowly and carefully. We are making the following equipment changes which will increase our level of service to you immensely. 1. We are adding a new T3 on Epoch. Epoch is a premier ISP with excellent bandwidth and reliability. This new route will be installed within 4 weeks. 2. We are adding several more T1s to MCI and Sprint. We expect increased bandwidth and reliability from these current routes as a result. 3. We have added 4 more $QUOTES$ servers. These AS400s should increase performance of your Level II quotes. We will be adding several more by the end of the month. 4. We are currently load balancing the order servers to increase speed. An additional 100 traders with IDs beginning with the letter "B" will be moved tonight. Please check your emails for that information. This is a temporary change for the next week. In one week we will be rolling out a new order server with increased performance not to mention several new features. We expect the end result will a tremendous increase in speed. We are also adding additional NASDAQ circuits, which will also add to order speed during "fast" markets. 5. We are upgrading our order desk with a new 800 number and several more traders. Phone orders do take priority and many of you have been hurried off calls in high volume imes. We know this is not fair nor acceptable. This new system will allow us to better manage the phone traffic and get your order executed quickly without any unnecessary delays. Instructions on your use of this new orders-800 number will follow and will streamline entry and confirmation. And finally, we are updating our web site server. Not only will we have a new more functional site but also will be adding many security features for your account data.
