Houston . . .

I have a similar story about Houston circa 1983.

At that time, I was working for a rocket company (yes, I really am a rocket scientist).

We were working on a small payload for the Space Shuttle and having a lot of trouble with passing the qualification tests. We were under the gun to hit our launch date so we built a test unit and shipped it express to the Houston Airport to test it at the Johnson Space Center. Two of our engineers flew to Houston to pick it up in a rental station wagon and take it to JSC.

They got into town in the afternoon and stopped at a diner for dinner. After dinner, surprise, no rental car!

The cops basically said, "yes, this happens all the time" and luckily found the abandoned car within a few (sweaty) hours. They then told our guys what stretch of road to cruise to find most of the rest of their stuff.
