Mohan:
Human right abuses in US are individual acts of violence perpetrated by law enforcement agencies against victims and not aided by US Govt. The olden days - Japanese internment - are gone.

Human right abuses by foreign Govts are of secondary importance to US as a foreign policy issue as long as the foreign state is in line with the foreign policy perceptions of the US Govt. US Business and self interest come first and human rights issue comes later. And the latter does not abrogate the former. The outstanding example of this policy is the Clinton's visit to China. South Asia, as long as it is not an economic or a military might, does not register in the collective conscience of the people and the Govt of US. Example: Every president runs to Japan for some reason or other, while South Asia is completely ignored. Practicing democracy is paramount in US, but the US foreign policy does not demand democratic values from other foreign countries as long as the US can trade with them. Don't be surprised if US starts coddling Taliban, Iraq, Iran etc, if they fall in line with the foreign policy mandates of US. Every country's foreign policy is not based on DHARMA, but on self interest.
