Robert- You may have something there in the timing of the Quidel rep- he came about the time Quidel was granted it's waiver- I believe he came in the capacity to inform,also to sell but was very low key- left some glossies and hasn't followed up since- as you say, most of the time these products come through general medical groups that have no vested interested as far as I can tell- we actually have modified clia status where we can do some tests not determined to require higher level standardization (ie. pay more money to someone)- we had to give up quite a bit of in office lab because of the regulations- I think most offices still do some clia tests as do we but clia waived would certainly be much more attractive (less cost, scrutiny and paperwork).
