"I mean, did AOL actually paid MSFT to use IE, or did MSFT provide AOL it's browser for free?" Read so much over the past six months it's starting to get fuzzy, but, as I recall, MSFT was grasping for browser share and therefore in order to nail the deal with AOL, placed the AOL icon on desktop and paid AOL a few cents for every member that started using MSFT browser on AOL.
