Ubiquity Software Corporation Becomes Newbridge® Affiliate

Computer Telephony Software to Create the Next Generation of
IP-based Distributed Call Centers and Centrex

KANATA, Ontario, November 19, 1998 – Newbridge Networks
(NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC) today announced that Ubiquity Software
Corporation has become a Newbridge® Affiliate company.
Ubiquity is a leader in designing and marketing
communications software for the new generation of Internet
Protocol (IP)-based telecommunication systems. The company
specializes in providing communications solutions for call
centers, carrier-scale managed services offerings and
corporate intranets. Ubiquity is one of the first companies
to demonstrate IP-based distributed call centers and Centrex
and is the recipient of five UK National Research and
Development awards.

"I am delighted to strengthen our association with Newbridge
Networks," said Simon Gibson, President and Chief Executive
Officer, Ubiquity Software. "Newbridge Networks is
well-positioned to help Ubiquity take advantage of today's
growing IP telephony market. Newbridge is a world leader in
bandwidth management, frame relay, asynchronous transfer
mode (ATM), IP technologies and network and service
management. This expertise is complemented by an in-depth
knowledge of service provider and end user requirements.
Newbridge delivers flexible and scalable voice services and
quality of service (QoS) control that is an essential part
of a deployment strategy."

"Our joint objective is to enable service providers to offer
premium, differentiated services to customers from one
network through high value applications such as distributed
call centers and Wide Area Multiservices Centrex," continued
Mr. Gibson.

"There are enormous advantages to creating services that are
based on open software environments, such as the Helmsman
Communication Server and IP. Many of these new telephony
services are freed from the constraints and limitations of
proprietary hardware and infrastructure."

The Java-based Helmsman Communication Server resides on a
web-server and passes call control to the switch or gateway.
It provides a platform to connect disparate network elements
to clients and subscribers through a unified delivery
mechanism. This enables service providers to deliver
computer telephony applications directly from the Internet,
eliminating the need to distribute software using
traditional methods. The server also supports the component
parts of the legacy network as well as new IP telephony
systems, such as the Vienna Server, the Siemens/Newbridge
MainStreetXpress™ 36100 Access Concentrator and
MainStreetXpress 56040 Voice Services Control Point.

Helmsman completely separates the user from the complexities
of networks that often involve a mixture of circuit-switched
and packet-based voice, data and image services with
associated information sources. Services delivery is
simplified and accessible regardless of location and the
client platform. Helmsman is also scalable from one to
millions of network devices. As a result, call centers
become virtual and truly distributed. For example, call
center agents can work from home without compromise because
once logged onto the system, their telephones are mirrored
to their office extensions with all the embedded computer
applications over the same link.

"I believe the existing generation of call centers have
optimized their technical potential," said Terence Matthews,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Newbridge Networks.
"However, the starting point for IP-based systems
encompasses mobility, voice and data convergence, flexible
and fast provisioning, scalability, web fusion and
multimedia. Telephone companies throughout the world are
recognizing the significance of this change and responding
to it."

"The call center business is rapidly expanding and I believe
this growth will accelerate as operators begin to provide
their customers with the solutions we will bring to market,"
continued Mr. Matthews. "Furthermore, the Centrex market has
struggled to deliver a real response to the demands of
computer telephony integration (CTI). Newbridge Networks
and Ubiquity provide a highly flexible and scalable solution
to this challenge. Ubiquity will be a key partner in our
roll out of compelling new services to our customer base."

Ubiquity Software Corporation, a Newbridge Affiliate
company, develops distributed, scalable IP telephony
software products for corporate and carrier networks to
enable managed services, such as Wide Area Multiservices
Centrex and distributed call centers. Ubiquity is the

Development Awards since 1994 and was the overall winner of
the National Multimedia and Innovation Award in 1995.
