The extension of the JVM to include this kind of numeric processing represents a major step for the Java OS paradigm. By including a base level extension, you avoid the class download overhead and have access to the local machine's numerical processor. This is further evidence of the shift in the desktop paradigm.

I don't know what effect this will have for SUNW, but I would not want to get into a long position on MSFT. I also think that the shift to the Java paradigm may enable AAPL to survive because if significant applications are written to a STANDARD Java (not MSFT's ActiveX version), the present lack of software for the MAC will not be as important an issue for choice of PC's.
