e quality remains better?

Go over to CES today and see. All the high end people are using CRT. Check out Faroudja. Check out Stewart and the other screen people. None of these folks are selling projectors, they just need the highest end projector to showcase their product.

Think about it, my CRT will go up to 900 lines. The max the TI can go to is 800.

Projectavision started with inventions claiming to "depixilate" the LCD. They burned all their R+D cash on this, and abandoned to license the micromirror device. They've taken the swiss army knife approach to the projection market. It would appear from the fact that they will only sell the device with the back projection unit, that there is where they expect to make their money. They have a slick plastic viewer with boom box sound and off-the-shelf electronics.

These guys are in the LCD market and are competing with the likes of Vidikron and Sharp. Price is the issue, not quality.
PJTV quality is not bad, it is simply not better. You need to check it out yourself.

How good does it have to be? Since DVD will be approximately the same as Laser Disk, it is good enough now. HDTV will demand more. A problem in this stuff is that to justify a good projector, you need good software and a player. VHS looks trashy on a good projector. Then you need good sound. I'm surprised that PJTV didn't add two speaker surround to their back light unit. DVD has no software and Laser Disk is stalled.
