If your broker is a market maker in the stock you are buying or selling, will he take a limit order? Will we be able to negotiate inside the spread? When a broker is a market maker, is he quoting the current price including the spread, or the price he sees on the screen, and then just adds his 1/8 to it? Studying the time and sale prices with the volume available on some internet broker's sites has helped me to place orders with limits, which I never did before, because I couldn't figure out how to place the order. Since I have been following a watch list on the internet, I have noticed a lot of prices quoted at sixteenths, thirty-seconds, sixtyfourths. I was never even aware that stocks could be bought with fractions lower than sixteenths before. I would like to see markets go to a decimal system. I understand some Canadian stocks are sold that way.
