Mike,

I do not know whether you would ever consider purchasing an investment trust that is traded on the London Stock Exchange. You might be interested in the Atlantis Japan Growth Fund, which was trading at a 20% discount to net asset value at the end of October 1998. The fund manager is heavily invested in small cap Japanese companies. Two other funds that concentrate on Japanese small caps are the Prospect Japan Fund and the Baillie Gifford Japan Trust. I believe that both funds are currently selling at sharp discounts to net asset value. Baillie Gifford is seeking authority from its shareholders to buy back stock.
