Yes, I have also read that in the past Kodak had stumbled.
They had refused to acknowledge the importance of digital photography.
I believe digital photography will be a real technological break through. It will be fun for those of us who are amateurs. But there must be tremendous applications for professionals, probably professionals in many different fields like medicine, engineering etc.
Since I am a scuba diver I have met many professional photographers, and I've seen the problems they have encountered dealing with film when they are abroad. They have too worry about humidity, heat etc. That's one reason I never took up underwater photography. You also have to worry about leaking cameras that destroy your film as well.
But one professional that I know was doing underwater photography for engineering purposes. On one particular job, I believe he was looking for structural problems in a bridge. He was using a remote video camera, a $75,000 or $80,000 camera.
But if he had had a digital camera, I would imagine that he could have come up with more detailed and better photographs because, as I understand it, video tape is analog.
In any case, I was very surprised to read over the past few months that EK was bringing out digital cameras, and, according to the Barrons article, EK had formed an alliance with HWP.
Now you tell me they are making cameras for Apple.I had imagined Kodak was selling the cameras under their own name.
This new news is even more exciting!!!!
I think I missed something in one of your earlier posts. Must have been the effect from the Erath vineyards pinot noir. It's been selling at $8.00 in these parts, a real bargain.
Anyway, is "Upside" a magazine. Which edition is the article in?
If I can find it, maybe I can post it on the net. I'm not sure how these things work. My housemate has a scanner at work so maybe we could scan it from there.
Actually, I do not think EK had any choice about digital photography. If they were unwilling to get involved, you can bet another company would jump in because companies are going to make a bundle of bucks with digital photography.
I can't wait to get my camera!!!!! |
