And what's the likelihood that my telco (PacBell-South) which is rolling out DSL from my CO (Beverly Hills) is gonna go with some additional special equipment to reach my neighborhood 7 1/2 miles yonder?

I'm not sure what brand of switching equipment their using to rollout initial DSL service. Might be Nortel. Am I correct in reading your post that if the switches are in-fact Nortel, a compatable DLC exists to deliver DSL in my neck of the woods

Assuming this to be the case what kind of expense are we talking about? Any info would be helpful.
