rich, you can't count sunk costs in your equation so the benefits have to be thrown out of the analysis - they get paid no matter what. also, keep in mind that most assistants spend a couple hours a day on the computer - not the whole day. so, say $10 and 2 minutes.

the real question is - does that 2 minutes saved actually increase output or does it mean more time at the water cooler? something to ponder...

i know some people who have come from management positions at intel. one is, well, shall we say, not even on the same street (planet?) so he can't even see my tail lights. the other is a good guy but not some work-a-holic robot.

this paradigm that all these people work like robots at intel isn't true. i'd argue that NOTHING is gained by saving the two minutes - other than an inflated bill. especially when comparing a p200 to other boxes. i'd argue that you don't even save a minute an hour when comparing a p200 to a pii450.

again, i'm not talking about calculation intensive positions. it makes sense in those cases. all 2% of them. ;-)
