One can certainly understand Intel's desire to have as many players involved in the EUV consortium as possible, they can only benefit from increased competition. However, I would be at a loss as to what particular advantage ASML would bringing EUV technology to market. In particular, any EUV stepper would have to be comprised entirely of reflective elements, something which would seem to favor SVGI with its long experience in making catadioptric projection lenses. ASML, I believe, does not even make its own lens elements (Zeiss does). ASML's primary strengths have been with thoughtput, reliability and support. Strengths that might be hard to duplicate with an entirely new technology.
