Dougerdad, I've not been able to find out who the OEMs are. I am pretty sure three of them are Mylex's current customers--Siemens, NEC and Digital (however, this is just a guess) and the forth I have no idea. Since Al didn't want to mention any by name one is probably a new OEM (again, I'm guessing here) which could be what has been driving the stock lately. On the other hand Mylex was previewing the WAM for the first time at COMDEX so that could have something to do with it also.

I did notice the slow growth HP posted. They also had some cuts back in the not to distant future. I keep thinking that they might be able to do much better if they outsourced for RAID again vs. doing it in house. As far as I know none of the box makers provide off the shelf RAID devices. A partnership with Dell would terrific or maybe Intel since a lot of what they do is based on Intel's product.

Like you I doubt if a purchase is in the works--there is still the issue of the poison pill which would need to be dealt with and I don't see a friendly merger given that they possibly have just turned the corner and gotten costs back under control.

I did unload my Mylex holdings today at 8 3/16 for a nice little profit (of course it's taken two years but I'm a long term investor). However, I'm going to be hanging around and watching for any opportunity to get back in.
