Let me play Devil's Avocado: things that have improved dramatically in the past few years/decades:

1. Groceries. My grocery shelves runneth over, with: Fruits: mangoes, kiwis, cherimoyas, lichis, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries. Dairy: yogurt, creme fraiche, cheeses from all over the world. Real reggiano parmesan at the local Giant/Safeway. Fish: salmon, caviar and sushi in the coolers at the local Costco. Breads: sourdough, peasant bread, bagels. To name but a few.

2. Takeout. Pizza, barbecue, chinese, burgers, roast chicken and all the fixin's, etc., etc., etc. Wow.

3. Wine. From all over the world. California wine that comes in a bottle without a screw top. If you are old enough, you know what I mean.

4. Beer. From all over the world, including beer made right here in the USA that would pass the German purity test (made from barley, hops, water and yeast). So many beers, so little time.

"The world is so full of such wonderful things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings." Robert Louis Stephenson. But, when I was growing up, these things were not available, maybe in Manhatten, or specialty stores, but not like now, available all over the place. That's a big improvement, and a recent one.
