Actually, as a high school chemistry teacher, a second career for me, I have my fingers crossed that things really go awry on Jan 1, 2000, so that I can get some extra time off....something like a week or two while they figure out how to get the heat and lights back on in the high school in the small town I work in.
Actually, on a more serious note, I started investing in Exxon, around the time of the Desert Storm crisis because I realized how dependent the world is on oil. Exxon was ranked as the number one oil stock before their infamous ship wreck. It seemed logical that Exxon would do well in a significant world crisis. So if one does occur next year, I think this is a good place to have money to make some money.
I never did trust those Canadians.... Its really pathetic that we have such a lengthy, undefended border with that country...at any time they could swarm down from the north meeting little to no resistance. We really ought to recall what Genghis Khan did to China -- a very similar scenario. :)
