Well my thoughts on how to make money on the internet is 2-pronged....
#1... buy shares of the real leading internet companies.... my portfolio right now consists of.... AOL, AMZN, XCIT, EBAY, RNWK, BRCM, DRIV .... the obvious one missing is YHOO (ran up too fast for me to get in right now) .... my plan is to hold these stocks through rises and falls unless others become obvious as better winners (By the way, I think SEEK will be one of the first losers of the portal war based on recent announcements).
Too many people seem to be buying and selling on short term bursts. The internet is going to fundamentally change our lives forever. Why not hold onto these potential Gorillas and give them a chance to make you BIG MONEY. Take a look at AOL's stock price since it went public and compare it to any of the others in my portfolio. You will quickly realize that if any of the others are going to be gorilla's like AOL, you will make a TON of money over the next 3-5 years..... I remember my brother commenting one day when he held AOL how the share volume was becoming huge. I did not realize at the time how important voolume is in signaling momentum and market acceptance.
Have you noticed how all the analysts keep saying how rediculously overvalued these stocks are? Don't be fooled by these comments. They are afraid to invest in stocks that are so volatile and they are waiting to see real earnings (like YHOO is now doing) and a larger share float before committing dollars to these stocks. Well, what do you think is going to happen when the big boys really start getting into these stocks? It doesn't take a genious to figure out that the movement will continue to be upward. There will be lot's of short term volatility and you have to just let the real winners go through these phases.
#2... and I'm struggling with this part.... find a product or group of products that have a high sales turnover and is very small in size, requiring very little shipping costs. 2 reasons... first, a small compact product will require very little inventory space, and cheap postage is appealing to consumers. the only problem is... I haven't found that product yet. I am considering doing regular auction postings on E-Bay, but I've been reading up on these internet storefronts that are being setup on YHOO and Earthlink, to name just 2... There are probably many other possible storefront schemes that I haven't discovered yet......
Anyways, this is where I am at... I would love to hear replies to this message.. or you can e-mail me at swa@ncia.net
