Another good omen! Go Bearcats!

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Ticker) -- Kenyon Martin scored 16
points and junior-college transfer Pete Mickeal added 15 in his
debut as 15th-ranked Cincinnati put aside a summer of
distractions with a 70-53 pasting of No. 25 Rhode Island.

Two weeks ago, the Bearcats (1-0) were slapped with two years'
probation by the NCAA for violations regarding recruiting, extra
benefits and a lack of institutional control after a one-year
investigation into the program.

But Cincinnati was equal to the task of focusing on the court,
bridging the halves with a 17-4 spurt that opened a 41-29 lead
with 16:22 to play.

Tavorris Bell scored 17 points for Rhode Island (2-2), which has
lost consecutive games by a combined 41 points after opening the
season with victories over TCU and Vanderbilt in the CoSIDA
Classic.

The Rams again played without projected starting point guard
Zach Marbury, who is awaiting a ruling from the NCAA eligibility
clearinghouse. His case is expected to be heard next Wednesday.
