Depends on the quality of the IPO

RE: Your question.....

"Co's with IPO's in 2 to 3 weeks eg. MALL, NAVR - any chance that Net stocks not as strong in a few weeks and the IPOs don't get as much of a pop, and therefore the company owning the IPO'd firm doesn't get much of a pop?"

If IPO's cool off, only the "brand name" and Internet sector leaders
and their partners will remain hot.

Look at recent history in August and September.

Look at DRIV and TSQD. DRIV flops out of the gate and it's partner TSQD did too. But Broadcom still excelled.

What happens is that analysts become picky ("selective"), and so do investors/ traders.

The cream rises to the top.

Marketwatch.com is an awesome site with CBS as its brand name. It's articles are already pasted EVERYWHERE. Unlike CNET, the news is constantly updated. Unlike Yahoo Finance, the news is reporting and analysis hot off the wire and not just PR's & BW's. Marketwatch has the expertise and staff of 40 reporters to keep you up to date on the latest news. Its like CNBC, except you can pick and choose what interests you rather than have to listen what is on the tube. Soon everyone will be checking their watches to see what stock Thom Calandra picks in his column that hits the wire around 11 AM. The page design and presentation blow away MSN-NBC's commerce page, plus Marketwatch's emphasis is extremely focused on the information that investors need to have to make decisions. And even though the net's functions are growing and forming a paralel cyber universe of commerce, sex and money will continue to have the same high level of importance as they do in the real tangible world.

With that said though, I'll add that I believe this year we've had a seasonal shift. Blame it on El Nino or Global warming, but we had October in August and September on the down side. Thus, I feel small/mid caps and second tier/third tier NASDAQ issues will start to have their annual January run in December. The New Year and first quarter though may than be a good time to increase your cash positions and short some of the high flyers.

Then again these are just my ignorant opinions so make your own decisions.

btw- On DBCC thread, I read mention of WSJ article on DBCC. I'm figuring that the article will coincide shortly with the announcement of the IPO date. I'm guessing an announcement of IPO date on Monday. I'm also guessing that the IPO will be sometime in the week after Thanksgiving.
